Woerthersee Rundwanderweg

The Wörthersee Rundwanderweg is a 50-kilometer circular hiking trail around the full perimeter of the Wörthersee, connecting every lakeside village and requiring two days for the complete circuit. The trail uses seasonal ferry crossings between the north and south shores. Individual sections are walkable as half-day or full-day outings from any point on the lake. The north shore is hillier and quieter than the south shore resort strip; the Maria Woerth peninsula on the south shore, with its two churches on a narrow headland projecting into the water, is the scenic highlight. The trail is free, marked, and always accessible, though the ferry crossings needed for the full circuit operate May to October. The Wörthersee’s main identity is as a warm swimming lake, but walking the perimeter gives a different perspective on the lake as a whole landscape.
