The Werfenwenger Bergsee is a mountain lake above Werfenweng, the car-free Pongau village with a slow tourism identity, at approximately 1,500 meters. 1-2 hours return by trail from the village. Free; accessible July to August for mountain lake swimming. Werfenweng is reached by electric shuttle from Werfen train station; Werfen is 30 minutes from Salzburg on the main line. Combine with the Eisriesenwelt ice cave (in the cliff above Werfen) for a full Tennengebirge day.
