Vaduz Castle

Also known as Schloss Vaduz

The official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein, perched on a hill above the town. Not open to visitors, but the exterior and the hillside setting are the defining image of Vaduz. The walk up to the castle viewpoint takes 15 minutes and gives views across the Rhine valley to the Swiss Alps opposite.

Vaduz Castle has been the private residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein since 1938 and is not open to visitors. The exterior and the hillside walk up from town are free and take 15 minutes each way; the view across the Rhine valley to the Swiss Alps from the castle terrace is the best in Vaduz. On 15 August (Liechtenstein National Day), the castle grounds open and the prince hosts a public reception with free wine: the one day of the year when the castle functions as a public space. The Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in the town below holds the princely art collection.
