Szimpla Kert on Kazinczy Street is the original ruin bar: a derelict former factory in Budapest’s Jewish quarter (District VII) left in deliberate decay and turned into a multi-room bar and cultural space in 2004. Rooms of salvaged furniture, exposed brick, and rotating art installations; a large courtyard; no entrance fee; drinks priced normally for Budapest. The Sunday farmers market from 9:00-14:00 is one of the best local produce markets in the city. Open daily from noon, busiest after 21:00. Walkable from Deak Ferenc ter metro in about 10 minutes.
