Stift Admont Library

A Benedictine abbey housing the world's largest monastic library. The library hall is one of the most spectacular Baroque interiors in Austria: 70 meters long, with ceiling frescoes by Bartolomeo Altomonte and 70,000 volumes. The abbey also contains a natural history museum and a contemporary art collection.

The Stift Admont library is 70 meters long and holds 70,000 volumes in a Baroque hall considered the world’s largest monastic library, with ceiling frescoes by Bartolomeo Altomonte depicting the four stages of knowledge. The abbey dates to 1074 but the current library building is 18th century; the natural history museum (250,000 specimens) and contemporary art collection are included in the entry ticket. Open daily April-October 10:00-17:00; approximately EUR 14-16. The Gesaeuse National Park starts at the abbey walls. By car or train via the Enns Valley, about 1 hour from Linz.
