St. Bartholomae is a 1697 Baroque pilgrimage church on the western shore of the Koenigssee, accessible only by boat from the Koenigssee pier. The red onion domes against the vertical Watzmann rockface have become the signature image of the Berchtesgaden region. The boat journey takes about 20 minutes; plan for a half-day including travel time. Check seenschifffahrt.de for the current boat timetable. Early arrival strongly recommended in summer when the pier queues grow long.
