Schönenbach above Bezau in the Bregenzerwald is a Vorsäss settlement, one of the intermediate-altitude farm clusters used in the traditional three-stage Vorarlberg cattle-herding cycle between valley floor, middle altitude, and high summer pastures. The wooden farm buildings sit in a forest bowl above Bezau and have retained their working character. The trail from Bezau is a half-day return walk through forest and meadow. Bezau is accessible by bus from Dornbirn or Bregenz.
