Schloss Esterhazy in Eisenstadt, Burgenland, is the Baroque palace where Joseph Haydn worked for nearly 30 years as court composer for the Esterhazy family. The Haydnsaal inside is a functioning concert hall with good natural acoustics where Haydn conducted his own works, and regular concerts are still performed here. The palace holds exhibitions on its history and on Haydn’s time here. The surrounding Schlosspark is free to enter. Open daily; approximately EUR 12 for palace tours. Train from Vienna Hauptbahnhof to Eisenstadt takes about 1 hour. Combine with the Haydn Haus museum in town and the Bergkirche where Haydn is buried.
