The district includes Instant-Fogas (the largest complex), Mazel Tov, Ellato Kert, and dozens of smaller venues on and around Kazinczy utca. Daytime is for street art, vintage shops, and Szimpla’s Sunday farmers’ market. Evenings get busy. Metro M2 to Astoria; the Dohány Street Synagogue is a 5-minute walk from the main bar area.

The ruin bar concept began in 2002 when Szimpla Kert opened in an abandoned factory in Budapest's seventh district, the old Jewish quarter of Erzsébetváros. The idea was straightforward: take a derelict building, add mismatched furniture and eclectic decoration, keep the prices low, and open the courtyard. The formula spread.
