The Rudas Baths at the foot of Gellert Hill were commissioned by the Ottoman governor of Buda in 1566 and have operated continuously since. The octagonal main pool under a domed roof with star-shaped light openings follows a 450-year-old hammam design unchanged from its Ottoman original. A 2014 addition brought a glass rooftop pool with Danube views. One of the last functioning Ottoman-era bathhouses in Europe. The octagonal central pool under a domed roof with star-shaped light openings has not changed in 450 years. It is one of the last surviving Ottoman-era hammams in Europe that still functions as an active bathhouse rather than a museum.
