Riegersburg Castle in southeastern Styria rises from the neck of an extinct volcano, 482 meters above the surrounding hills. With 108 rooms, seven defensive gates, and a documented history from 1122, it was one of the most significant fortifications on the Habsburg empire’s Ottoman frontier.
