The Reichenstein is a climbing and hiking massif near Eisenerz in Styria, in the same valley as the Erzberg open-cast iron ore mine. The contrast between serious alpine terrain and a working industrial mine visible from the approach routes is one of the more unusual combinations in Austrian tourism. The Leopoldsteiner See, a turquoise lake at the foot of the Reichenstein cliffs, adds a third element. Eisenerz is 30 minutes by car from Leoben.
