The Pinkenkogel (1,399 m) is the main summit hike from Semmering, the 19th-century resort village built around the world’s first true mountain railway. The 2-3 hour round trip from the village gives views over the Semmering railway valley and the Styrian approaches. Semmering is on the railway line from Vienna Suedbahnhof (1.5 hrs). Free trail, no booking required. Best combined with a walk down to see the UNESCO-listed railway viaducts.
