St. Peter’s Cemetery in Salzburg has been in continuous use since around 700 AD, making it one of the oldest Christian cemeteries in the German-speaking world. The graves press against the Mönchsberg cliff face, where Early Christian catacombs are carved directly into the rock. Mozart’s sister Nannerl and composer Michael Haydn are buried here. The cemetery is free; the catacombs require a small entry fee and are worth paying for. A 5-minute walk from Mozartplatz in the Altstadt. Allow 30-45 minutes.
