The building's theatrical facade is among the best-preserved on Piazza delle Erbe, which has functioned as a market since Roman times.

The six stone gods on the facade have watched over this ancient market square since 1668; inside, the collection includes Dalí, Picasso, Kandinsky, and Morandi, assembled by a contemporary Veronese collector. The contrast between the Counter-Reformation exterior and the 20th-century modernist collection is part of the point.
