hiking trail in Obertraun

Ostuferwanderweg

The Ostuferwanderweg runs along the east shore of the Hallstätter See from Obertraun to Hallstatt, offering the one route to Hallstatt that avoids both the road tunnel and the ferry: a trail cut into the cliff face above the lake with views across to the village that has no equivalent from any other angle.

The Ostuferwanderweg is a 6 km trail along the east shore of the Hallstätter See from Obertraun to Hallstatt, taking approximately 1.5-2 hours. Free; no booking required. The trail passes the viewpoint used for the classic Hallstatt reflection photograph. Start from Obertraun (train station on the Salzkammergut railway); return to Obertraun by ferry from Hallstatt village.
