Nymphenburg Palace is the summer residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty in western Munich, begun in 1664 and expanded over a century into a 700-meter Baroque facade. The interior highlights are the Gallery of Beauties, 36 portraits by Joseph Karl Stieler commissioned by Ludwig I depicting women of all social classes including his mistress Lola Montez, and the Amalienburg hunting lodge in the park, whose circular Hall of Mirrors in silver and pale blue is one of Europe’s finest Rococo rooms. The 180-hectare palace park is free and open year-round. Palace adults EUR 15; park free. Tram 17 from central Munich, 20 minutes.
