Nikolaihof in Mautern an der Donau, documented since 985 AD and built on Roman foundations, is Austria’s oldest winery and was the first in the country to convert to biodynamic viticulture in 1971. The Saahs family produces Gruner Veltliner and Riesling aged for years in Roman-era cellars; the wines are among the most respected in Austria. The on-site restaurant serves Wachau regional cuisine.
