The Grosses Walsertal Biosphere Reserve in western Vorarlberg is a UNESCO-designated managed landscape in one of the most remote inhabited valleys in the Austrian Alps.

The Grosses Walsertal Biosphere Reserve is a remote UNESCO-designated valley in western Vorarlberg, homeland of the Walser people who migrated from the Swiss Valais in the 13th-14th centuries. Seven communities maintain traditional alpine farming in a landscape recognized for sustainable mountain settlement. Free access to the open valley; by car or postbus from Bludenz (30-45 minutes). The Walsertal is uncrowded and offers excellent mountain hiking with no resort infrastructure.
