The Nationalpark Berchtesgaden is Germany’s only Alpine national park, directly bordering Salzburg province in the Berchtesgadener Land. The Koenigsee, a glacially carved lake enclosed by near-vertical rock walls, is the park’s centerpiece: only electric boats are permitted, giving the water an exceptional silence. The Watzmann at 2,713 meters is the third-highest peak in Germany.
