Narzissenfest

Once a year, usually in late May or early June, the meadows around Bad Aussee in the Ausseerland turn white and yellow with wild daffodils (Narcissus radiiflorus and N. poeticus). The scale is significant: millions of flowers across multiple valleys, visible from roads and hiking paths simultaneously.

The Narzissenfest in Bad Aussee is Austria’s largest flower festival, held in late May or early June when millions of wild daffodils bloom across the Ausseerland meadows. The festival has run since 1960 and includes decorated floats, costumed processions, and boat parades on Grundlsee and Altausseer See. The bloom window is typically 1-2 weeks; the festival itself lasts 3-4 days. Accommodation books out weeks in advance during festival dates. The daffodil meadows are free to walk before and after the official festival with equal flower density and far fewer visitors. Train to Bad Aussee from Graz or Salzburg; local buses to the lake villages.
