Musiktheater am Volksgarten

Also known as Musiktheater Linz

One of Europe's most modern opera houses, designed by Terry Pawson and opened in 2013 at the Volksgarten. The Musiktheater replaced the outdated Landestheater as Linz's main performing arts venue. The building makes a contemporary architectural statement that aligns with Linz's creative-city positioning alongside the Ars Electronica Center and Lentos.

The Musiktheater am Volksgarten is Linz’s main opera and musical theater venue, designed by British architect Terry Pawson and opened in 2013. It is the flagship of Linz’s deliberate repositioning as a creative city alongside the Ars Electronica Center and Lentos Art Museum. The main hall seats 1,200 with flexible staging and serious acoustic engineering. Tickets EUR 10-80; box office at landestheater-linz.at. Tram or bus to Volksgarten, or 15-minute walk from Hauptplatz.
