The Muenchner Residenz is Germany’s largest urban palace, the seat of the Wittelsbach dynasty for centuries and now Munich’s most significant historic interior. The Antiquarium, a 69-meter Renaissance hall built in 1568 to house a ducal antiquities collection and later converted into a banqueting hall, is considered the finest Renaissance room north of the Alps. The Treasure Chamber (Schatzkammer) holds a millennium of Wittelsbach craftsmanship, from 10th-century prayer books to jeweled ceremonial swords.
