The Muellersches Volksbad is a 1901 Art Nouveau public swimming pool on the Isar river in Munich, designed by Carl Hocheder in Jugendstil: organic ornament, barrel-vaulted ceilings, ornate tilework, and a quality of space that looks more like a Byzantine cathedral than a public bath. Built as a civic gift from businessman Karl Mueller to solve Munich’s urban water hygiene crisis, it has been operating continuously for over 120 years.
