The Moenchsberg is the limestone ridge forming Salzburg’s western old-town wall, accessible by a public lift from Anton-Neumayr-Platz in under two minutes. The terrace gives the best panorama of Salzburg’s Baroque roofline and cathedral domes, with Hohensalzburg Fortress to the right. The Museum der Moderne contemporary art museum sits on the cliff top. Walking west along the ridge through the cliff gardens reaches the Augustiner Braustuebl monastery brewery, open since 1621, in about 20 minutes. Allow 1 to 2 hours for the full terrace walk including the Museum der Moderne. Lift ticket costs are budget-priced; museum entry is separate.
