Medieval city walls

Freistadt's medieval city walls are almost entirely intact, with 7 towers, a complete circuit, and a moat that still holds water in sections.

Freistadt in Upper Austria has one of the most intact medieval city wall circuits in Austria, with 7 towers and surviving moat sections from the original 13th century fortification. The walls are freely accessible and most rewarding viewed from the exterior perimeter. Freistadt is 35 minutes from Linz by train. The town also has a city brewery operating since 1363; combine the walls with a visit to the Altstadt and the Hauptplatz inside them.
