Maria Wörth sits on a narrow peninsula jutting into the Woerthersee on Carinthia’s most famous lake, with two medieval churches surrounded by water on three sides. The parish church and the older Romanesque Rosenkranzkirche together create the iconic lake-and-steeple view that defines Carinthian scenery. The site is free to visit and open daily; the 30-minute walk around the peninsula and through both interiors makes this an easy stop from Klagenfurt, about 15 kilometers away on the lake’s south shore. Early morning light on the water is the best time for photography.
