Built for Hungary’s 1896 Millennium celebrations, the Szabadság híd (Liberty Bridge) is the shortest and most ornate of Budapest’s river crossings, with green Art Nouveau towers topped by Turul birds from Magyar mythology. Emperor Franz Joseph drove the ceremonial final rivet at the opening. Free to walk across; tram 47/49 to Fővám tér. Combine with the Great Market Hall on the Pest side and Gellért Baths on the Buda side.
