A narrow lake enclosed by 800-meter limestone cliffs near Eisenerz in Styria, one of Austria’s most dramatically framed swimming spots. Free access from the shore; cold water even in summer. Car from Eisenerz (5 km); train from Leoben. Combine with the Erzberg open-cast iron ore mine a few kilometers away, still the largest of its kind in Europe, and the nearby Gesäuse National Park.
