The first and longest-operating concentration camp of the National Socialist regime, Dachau opened on 22 March 1933 and served as the organizational model for all camps that followed. Over 200,000 people were imprisoned here during twelve years of operation; at least 41,500 died. The memorial site, open daily from 09:00, includes a thorough documentation center and preserved camp structures including crematoria. Free admission. Reached by S-Bahn and bus from Munich in approximately 40 minutes.

KZ-Gedenkstaette Dachau
Dachau was the first concentration camp (Konzentrationslager, KZ) opened by the National Socialist regime, established on 22 March 1933, six weeks after Hitler took power. It operated for the full twelve years of the Third Reich, longer than any other camp, and served as the model on which all subsequent camps were organized.
