The Kreuzstein Wasserfall near Plomberg is a short hiking destination on the southern shore of the Mondsee at the foot of the Schafberg, accessible from the lake path on a 1 to 1.5 hour round trip. Free access. Mondsee is 30 km east of Salzburg by bus. Combine with a swim at the Mondsee, a visit to the Freilichtmuseum Mondseer Rauchhaus, and if time allows, the rack railway up the Schafberg from St. Wolfgang on the neighboring lake.
