The Kaprun Stauseen (Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden reservoirs) at 2,040 meters are one of the most dramatic and most historically layered excursions in the Salzburg Alps. Accessed through tunnels and the Lärchwandbahn inclined elevator built in 1951. The reservoir project used forced labor from Mauthausen subcamps in 1944-1945 during initial construction.
