Hlavne Namestie (Main Square) is the center of Bratislava’s old town since the medieval period when the city was Pressburg, the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary. The Roland Fountain (1572) stands at its center; the Old Town Hall on the eastern side houses Slovakia’s oldest museum and the room where Napoleon negotiated the Peace of Pressburg after Austerlitz in 1805. The square is the natural orientation point for any Bratislava visit and the start of most walking routes. Always open; museum ticket required for the Old Town Hall interior.
