The Helenental is a forested river valley running south of Baden bei Wien toward the hills, with two medieval castle ruins above the trail. Beethoven walked this valley during his summer stays in Baden in the early 1820s. The full valley walk with the castle ruins takes 2 to 3 hours. Free and always accessible. Baden is on the S1 S-Bahn line, 35 minutes from Vienna. The trail starts from the southern edge of Baden town. A quieter and more atmospheric alternative to the town’s thermal spa circuit.
