The Gustav Klimt Themenweg is a 26-station trail along the western Attersee shore connecting the spots where Klimt painted more than 50 landscapes during his Salzkammergut summers from 1900 to 1916. The Attersee landscapes are a quieter, more contemplative body of work than the famous Vienna allegories, and walking the lake shore with reproductions in hand makes the connection between painting and place concrete. Free and open-air; start from Kammer am Attersee and visit the Gustav Klimt Zentrum there first for context. Reach the Attersee by regional bus from Vocklamarkt on the Salzburg to Linz rail line.
