Graukogel

The Graukogel (2,492m) is Bad Gastein’s quiet alternative to the cable car crowds on Stubnerkogel. A hiking trail leads through protected old-growth forest before opening onto Hohe Tauern alpine terrain with panoramic views over the valley. No lift, no entrance fee, no suspension bridge: just a serious mountain walk. Allow 3-4 hours for the round trip from town. Check gastein.com for trail conditions. Best combined with a day or two at Bad Gastein’s thermal baths rather than as a standalone visit.
