The Gosau Stone and Fossil Exhibition in Gosau village displays specimens from the Gosau Formation, a Late Cretaceous fossil sequence (about 80 to 90 million years old) embedded in the limestone cliffs of the Dachstein massif. Ammonites and rudists from when the Alps were a tropical seabed. Small admission; open seasonally. Bus from Bad Ischl (30 minutes). Visit before going to the Gosausee: understanding that the cliff walls are fossilized seabed makes the Gosaukamm rock faces considerably more interesting to look at.
