Gasthof Zauner on Hallstatt’s Marktplatz is one of the few restaurants in the village where a traditional meal at a proper pace is still possible. Order the Reinanke (a local Salzkammergut freshwater char) grilled or pan-fried; the terrace looks over the lake.
