The Gastein Museum in Bad Gastein occupies the former Grand Hotel de l’Europe, one of the Belle Epoque palaces that made this mountain gorge the preferred cure destination for Kaiser Franz Josef, Bismarck, and the 19th-century European elite. The exhibits trace the valley’s rise from remote alpine springs to a resort that briefly rivaled Baden-Baden, and its complicated afterlife once the cure culture retreated. Plan 1 to 1.5 hours.
