The Gainfeld Celtic Site above Bischofshofen is an Iron Age archaeological site from around 600 BC, part of the Hallstatt culture zone that extended across the copper and gold-rich eastern Alps. The Mitterberg copper mines near Bischofshofen were among the most productive in prehistoric Central Europe, and Celtic communities in the Pongau built their settlements around access to mineral resources. Free outdoor site within the Geopark Erzderalpen; most meaningful with some Hallstatt culture background. Bischofshofen is on the main Salzburg to Villach rail line.
