The Formarinsee is an alpine lake at 1,793 meters near Lech am Arlberg, with the red limestone walls of the Rote Wand reflecting in the turquoise water. It was voted Austria’s most beautiful natural water body. Reached by a 2-hour hike from the Formarinalpe (bus from Lech in summer) or a longer full-day hike from Lech itself. Free access; no infrastructure at the lake. Open hiking season June to October. Combine with exploring the broader Lech-Zuers ski resort area in summer.
