The Festungsbahn is the funicular connecting Salzburg’s old town (Festungsgasse) to Hohensalzburg Fortress, opened in 1892 and one of the oldest operating funiculars in Austria. The journey takes about a minute and is included in the fortress admission. The lower station is on Festungsgasse, a short walk uphill from Kapitelplatz in the Altstadt.

Festungsbahn
The Festungsbahn is the funicular that carries passengers from Festungsgasse in the Altstadt up to Hohensalzburg Fortress. It opened in 1892 and the ascent takes about a minute. The alternative is the steep footpath alongside it. For most visitors the funicular is included in the fortress admission, so there is no reason to walk up.
