funicular in Salzburg

Festungsbahn

The Festungsbahn is the funicular that carries passengers from Festungsgasse in the Altstadt up to Hohensalzburg Fortress. It opened in 1892 and the ascent takes about a minute. The alternative is the steep footpath alongside it. For most visitors the funicular is included in the fortress admission, so there is no reason to walk up.
