The Felsenreitschule is a theater carved into the Moenchsberg cliff in 1693, originally built as a riding school for Salzburg’s prince-archbishop. Three tiers of 17th-century rock arcades form the auditorium backdrop. It hosts some of the most prestigious opera productions of the Salzburg Festival each July and August. Festival tickets range from EUR 30 to EUR 430+; book months ahead. Outside Festival season, the guided tour of the Festival complex (approximately EUR 15) is the only way inside.
