Englischer Garten

One of the world's largest urban parks, larger than Central Park and Hyde Park. The Eisbachwelle (river surfing wave) at the southern entrance, the Chinesischer Turm beer garden, and the Monopteros temple viewpoint are the anchor spots. The park runs for 5 kilometers along the Isar river. Free, open, and central to Munich life.

The Englischer Garten is Munich’s central park: 375 hectares, 5 km long along the Isar, larger than Central Park, created in 1789. The Eisbachwelle (river surfing wave) is at the south entrance; the Chinesischer Turm beer garden (7,000 seats) is the main social hub; the Monopteros temple gives the best city-to-Alps panorama on clear days. Free and always open. U-Bahn to Odeonsplatz (south entrance) or Münchner Freiheit (north). The beer garden works best on weekdays; weekends in summer are very crowded.
