The Elisabethkapelle (Sisi Chapel) on the Schmittenhöhe summit (1,965m) above Zell am See is a small chapel named for Empress Elisabeth, who visited the Pinzgau in the late 19th century. The summit gives a 360-degree view over Zell am See lake, the Kaprun glacier, and the Hohe Tauern range. Access by Schmittenbahn cable car from Zell am See town center; cable car ticket required; chapel free. Zell am See is about 1 hour from Salzburg by train. The summit panorama is the main draw; the chapel is a 5-minute addition to the summit walk.
