Elisabethkapelle / Sisi Chapel

The Elisabethkapelle (Sisi Chapel) is a small chapel on the Schmittenhöhe, the 1,965-meter mountain above Zell am See that gives the town its panoramic backdrop and its main ski area.

The Elisabethkapelle (Sisi Chapel) on the Schmittenhöhe summit (1,965m) above Zell am See is a small chapel named for Empress Elisabeth, who visited the Pinzgau in the late 19th century. The summit gives a 360-degree view over Zell am See lake, the Kaprun glacier, and the Hohe Tauern range. Access by Schmittenbahn cable car from Zell am See town center; cable car ticket required; chapel free. Zell am See is about 1 hour from Salzburg by train. The summit panorama is the main draw; the chapel is a 5-minute addition to the summit walk.
