The Eisbachwelle is a standing wave in the Eisbach channel at the southern entrance to the Englischer Garten, where surfers ride year-round in 10-15°C water. River surfing has been documented here since 1972; the city officially legalized it in 2010 after decades of tolerated practice. Free to watch from the Prinzregentenstrasse bridge; restricted to experienced surfers only (fast current, shallow at peak). U-Bahn to Prinzregentenplatz or Lehel, or on foot from Marienplatz in about 20 minutes. One of Munich’s best free spectacles year-round.
