The Drachenwand is a 1,176m limestone cliff face above the southern shore of Mondsee in the Salzkammergut, offering a via ferrata (Klettersteig) with views over the lake and the surrounding lake chain. Free access; proper via ferrata equipment required for the climbing route (harness, via ferrata set, helmet); the summit hiking trail is an alternative for those without climbing gear. Full day outing (4-6 hours total). Trailhead from Mondsee town; bus from Salzburg in about 45 minutes. Open May to October when snow-free. Combine with the Mondsee Basilika and the lake shore for a full day in the upper Salzkammergut.
