The Doppelreiterwarte is a lookout tower on the hills above Semmering, built in the 19th-century resort era when the Viennese upper classes colonized the mountain for summer air and views. Semmering’s main draw is the Semmeringbahn, the first mountain railway in the world to use steam traction (1854, UNESCO World Heritage), and the tower sits in the same landscape the railway opened up.
