The Donauradweg (Danube Cycle Path) covers approximately 330 km through Austria from Passau to Vienna on flat, well-signed, mostly traffic-free paths along the riverbank. It passes the Wachau UNESCO World Heritage valley, Stift Melk, Roman frontier sites, and wine villages. Consistently among Europe’s top-ranked long-distance cycling routes. The full Austrian section takes 4-7 days; shorter day-trip sections are easy from Vienna (Klosterneuburg-Vienna) or Linz (Grein-Linz). Bikes are allowed on Austrian trains. Peak season (June-August): book accommodation in advance. The Wachau section (Melk to Krems, 36 km) is the single best day on the route.
