Dachstein West is the ski area on the western face of the Dachstein massif, covering the Gosau and Russbach valleys. It offers intermediate terrain and family-friendly slopes in a notably quieter setting than the glacier and Krippenstein areas on the mountain’s other faces. The area is part of the broader Dachstein-Salzkammergut ski region with regional pass connections. Access by car to Gosau (about 40 km from Bad Ischl); regional buses also serve the area. In summer, the same Gosau valley draws visitors to the Gosausee lake and the Dachstein cave systems. Check current passes and lift schedules before visiting.
